THE LEGEND OF THE POINSETTIA

It was once a custom in Mexico
for villagers to leave gifts for the Baby Jesus
in their churches on Christmas Eve.
In one small village, a little boy who had
no gift to bring knelt down and prayed for a way
to show his love for the Infant King.
Suddenly, where he knelt, a flower bloomed.
It was formed like a star
and had brilliant red leaves.
This miraculous flower came to be known as
the “Flower of the Holy Night.”

Many years later, after i was discovered by
J.R. Poinsett (1779-1851), an American
ambassador to Mexico, the plant was named
the Poinsettia.
