This commemorative ornament, 13th in a series, began as one of the tallest Christmas trees in the nation. The 97-foot Douglas fir was a gift to Kansas City from the private forests of the Willamette Industries in Oregon. The tree traveled more than 1,500 miles through six states to Kansas City, where it became a symbol of our city’s nurturing spirit as the 1992 Mayor’s Christmas Tree. Each year, the tree stands in Crown Center Square to represent the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, a citywide charity that makes the season merrier for our less fortunate. After the holidays, the tree is cut into lumber and made into ornaments designed by Hallmark artists. This limited-edition ornament is the latest in the series of collectible ornaments. The variation in the wood grain makes each ornament a one-of-a-kind treasure. And, through each ornament lives the spirit of holiday giving—all proceeds from the sale of these ornaments benefit this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund.
