In the June 1987 free-agent draft, Ken Griffey Jr. was the first-round, first pick of the Seattle Mariners. The left-hander has since become one of the few players to hit more than 55 home runs in a single season. On two occasions, he hit 3 home runs in a single game. His career total of grand-slam homers has climbed to 9. Awarded the A.L. Golden Glove, the star outfielder was named to the All-Star team 8 years in a row and was A. L. MVP in 1997. Ken Griffey Jr. and his dad, Ken Griffey Sr., made baseball history—as the first father and son to play on the same major league club at the same time. This series honors a different baseball great each year.
