Nello Williams

Nello Williams has always been fascinated with the space-age design of the ’50s and 60s. “From chrome trim to fins on cars and rockets, these artists really thought they were creating what the future was going to look like,” he says. “It was a positive outlook, but it was pretty killer to design, too.” Nello tries to incorporate this aesthetic into his own work and has even branded some of his retro Keepsake Ornaments with the “Nellco” label.

While this ornament design is very wintery, summer is the real season for snow cones. The idea is that it’s actually snowing inside, producing both a wintery scene and the cool summer treat at the same time. I also snuck in a bottle of my favorite syrup flavor, which is blue raspberry! It was inspired by a shaved ice stand owned by a friend of mine.

Nellco creator and Keepsake Artist Nello Williams has a bit of a sweet tooth, especially when it comes to snow cones. His favorite flavor? Blue raspberry! When he developed the concept for Syrupy Snow Cone Surprise, he was inspired by his friend’s local shaved ice shoppe. Nello was also motivated by the simplicity and delight of carnival food, similar to his 2016 popcorn machine Keepsake Ornament, Poppy Holidays. However, there was nothing simple about designing a 3-D ornament, especially one with that retro, Nellco magic. Using the same program that moviemakers utilize to create animated films, Nello digitally sculpted Syrupy Snow Cone Surprise. Later, a lovely rendition of “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” was composed, along with the light and simultaneous motion of snowflakes softly falling. Nello said, “The sound studio professionals did a super job on the music.” Keeping with the snowy theme, Nello added embossed snowflakes to the back of the snow cone stand. He said, “It’s a cool, little surprise.”
