A Time for Peace For many years, Joanne Eschrich has been inspired by the kindness and tranquility that angels bestow. The first ornament in her Christmas Angels series is a gentle example of how she envisions these heavenly guardians. “I ‘m very excited about this series. It’s the angel version of my Father Christmas series,” she says. Joanne chose to name this first angel Peace, just like she did for her first-in-series Father Christmas ornament. She worked very hard to make this angelic beauty the epitome of a calm, serene presence, saying that the color scheme reflects her message. ” I wanted her to be elegant but fresh, with a peaceful and loving expression to her face.” Joanne is proud of how this ornament combines story telling with her passion for angels. The base of the ornament reads ” Let there be peace on earth.” Created with mixed materials, Joanne’s angel includes metal wings and fabric attachments. The soft, ethereal quality resonates with Joanne on a personal note, too. “I think of the many angels I know in Heaven, including my sister, nephew, dad and many aunts and uncles,” she says. “This is for all of them, as well as all the angels I know here on earth.” Those “angels on earth” include her mother, siblings, nieces. nephews and her two daughters. “As you can see, I have a very big, loving family,” she says. Growing up south of Boston, Joanne’s spirited Catholic Portuguese family gave her much to be grateful for: love, faith and infinite inspiration. Now that she lives away from home, she finds comfort in snowflakes, starry nights and things that she can’t see but that her heart knows are there. She believes in angels and hopes that the peace they give to her finds its way to you.
