So, when it came to thinking about a new ornament series, she went with the kind of white Christmas she knows best -the beach! “Sand is a great building material, so Sandal the Sandman became my Florida snowman. I gave him a palm tree decorated with lights just like the one my parents always put out for Christmas. This guy was greatly inspired by my childhood growing up in Florida. We didn’t have snow. We had Sand. What if this northern girl came down to Florida for Christmas, saw no snow, decided to make a Sandman instead, stuck a seashell in his nose and he came to life. Trimming the tree was a big event in my family. So I wanted to create that new tradition with Sandal for his first outing as a Keepsake series. Every year we’ll get to see sandal in a different setting as he Florida-izes different Christmas traditions. We have Sandal The Sandman and his turtle friend decorating a palm tree. We have a starfish as the star, that’s on top with glitter on it, seashells to be the ornaments and they’re wrapping seaweed around the palm tree. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out.
