In 1964, the sporty new Mustang was the hottest car on the street, and “Mustang mania” was sweeping the nation. Even kids were invited to share in the fun as pedal car versions began appearing alongside their larger counterparts at Ford dealerships across the country. Although the full-size car still holds the record for the most first-year automobile sales, the Mustang pedal car sold a staggering 93,000 units that Christmas, making it the toy sensation of the season and one of the most popular kiddie cars ever.
