Model 4010 Tractor

“Start from scratch!”  That was the assignment given to a dedicated team of John Deere Engineers in the 1950s to help farmers manage increasingly larger acreage.  The result was the 1961 Model 4010 tractor with a 6-cylinder variable speed engine and Synchro-Range transmission.  Now the operator could choose the most efficient gear and speed for the job at hand and do it from a scientifically designed posture seat so comfortable that farmers sent fan mail praising it.  The 4010 Brough the high-horsepower-to-weight concept to the John Deere line and revolutionized farm tractor design.
