At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Muhammad Ali stepped forward to light the flame that signaled the opening of the Games. The crowd roared its approval of the man and endorsed the claim he made early in his career: “I am the Greatest!”

Ali took up boxing at the age of 12, after his bicycle was stolen. With skill, self-confidence, and courage, he won a gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome and went on to become the three-time Heavyweight Champion of the World. Ali also charmed fans and sportswriters with his ability to turn a clever phrase. Who can forget “Rope-a-Dope” or “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!”
