Police scientist Barry Allen became The Flash—the Fastest Man Alive—by accident.  When lightning struck his lab, he was splashed with a combination of chemicals and transformed into the legendary Scarlet Speedster!  The Flash became such a popular super hero that DC Comics gave him his own title in 1956.  The Flash also appeared with other super heroes including  Superman and Batman in Justice League of America.  In 1990, The Flash was introduced to TV viewers in a series noted for spectacular special effects.
