Nello Williams has always been fascinated with the space-age design of the ’50s and 60s. “From chrome trim to fins on cars and rockets, these artists really thought they were creating what the future was going to look like,” he says. “It was a positive outlook, but it was pretty killer to design, too.” Nello tries to incorporate this aesthetic into his own work and has even branded some of his retro Keepsake Ornaments with the “Nellco” label.

2018 marks our 41st year of partnering with Disney to create Keepsake Ornaments featuring iconic characters like Mickey, Donald, Goofy and more. This year’s collection is highlighted by our interactive Disney Storytellers ornaments, with light, sound and motion.

Connect one of these character ornaments to a Keepsake Power Cord to see it light up and perform a holiday carol. Add one or both of the other carolers, and you’ll unlock some amazing interactive performances!

It took a team effort to bring this trio to life. Keepsake Artist Nello Williams sculpted the ornaments while collaborating with engineer Jean Newton.

“We worked together to make sure we had enough space for the movement and mechanics,” Nello says.

Editor Mike Brush and composer Tracy Icenogle partnered with Disney ‘s official character voice talent to bring authentic vocals to these carolers. Working together, they created real Disney magic.

This Storytellers collection shows how far technology has come in 41 years of partnering with Disney. And it celebrates a partnership begun by a friendship between Walt Disney and Hallmark founder J.C. Hall that continues to thrive not only with innovation but also, more importantly, with a mutual love for characters that bring joy to the world all year long.
