The Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Club event of 1991

The first-ever Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Club National Convention.
Commemorated the five year anniversary of The Keepsake Ornament Collector’s Club.

Mail in only (Registration fees had to be included with registration form.)

Event Fee:

  • Early Registration: $235.00 per KOCC member*
    (must be postmarked by December 10, 1990)
  • After December 10, 1990: $265.00 per KOCC member*

Fee included meals (except Friday night), tours, materials and admission to all seminars and workshops plus many, many surprises and extras! It did not include hotel accommodations.

*Event was limited to KOCC members only.

Thursday, June 20, 1991

  • Registration
    Attendees picked up their Convention Tote Bags and had the opportunity to buy a Convention T-Shirt.
  • Get-Acquainted Ice Cream Social
    Attendees got to meet with representatives from the Collector’s Club and Keepsake department.
  • Games:
    • Collectors were given Series buttons at Registration.  They were told to find other collectors in the hall with buttons of the same series.
    • Ornament Bingo – Each attendee received the Tender Touch figurine, “Times to Cherish”.

Friday, June 21, 1991

  • Breakfast Buffet
  • Welcome
    Rachel Perkal, Brad Beyer, and Don Hall. Gordon MacKenzie spoke about creativity.
  • 1991 Keepsake Ornaments
    Clara Johnson Scroggins spoke briefly about the 1991 ornament line and then used a giant pair of scissors to cut a ribbon, unveiling the 1991 line.
  • Video Presentation
    “A Look Behind the Scenes” showed various stories about Keepsake Ornaments throughout the years.
  • Lunch
    Featuring famous Kansas City foods like BBQ and a live Jazz band.
  • Decorating Ideas
    Sarah Taylor, who designed the photos in Clara Johnson Scroggin’s ornament book, shared decorating ideas and tips using Keepsake ornaments.  Each attendee participated along with a large box full of crafting material.
  • Keepsake Staff Q&A
    Attendees were able to ask staff questions about ornaments and upcoming products.
  • Artist Signing
    Each attendee received 5 signatures from each artist and one from Clara Johnson Scroggins.
  • Evening Event at Benjamin Ranch
    A western-themed evening featuring real stage coaches and hay rides that the attendees could enjoy. A country music band played during dinner.
  • Attendees staying at the event hotel found two miniature ornaments on their pillow when they returned for the night.

Saturday, June 22, 1991

  • Continental Breakfast
  • Hallmark Distribution Center Tour – Leavenworth, Kansas
    Guided tour of the Hallmark facility where Hallmark products are produced and distributed.  At the conclusion of the tour attendees were given a box lunch with a Hallmark Christmas lapel pin.
  • Hallmark Keepsake Designer Holiday Home Tour
    A fully decorated turn-of-the-century home decorated by Hallmark staff with ornaments donated by Clara Johnson Scroggins. Each attendee left with a tiny golden bag filled with candy.
  • Christmas Wonderland Banquet Finale
    • Traditional Christmas dinner with a band playing throughout the evening.
    • Costume Contest: More than 200 members turned out in dazzling costumes inspired by their favorite ornaments at the banquet.
    • Video highlights from the Convention
    • The Kansas City Santa ornaments were given to attendees.

*Note: As her prize Joanne was flown back to Kansas City to meet with Keepsake Artist, Donna Lee and the Keepsake Ornament staff to collaborate on a Keepsake Ornament based on her favorite Christmas memories. The ornament that came out of this collaboration was “Look for the Wonder” (QX5685), an Advent calendar (released in 1993) that reflects the Ukrainian holiday traditions passed down to Joanne by her grandmother.
