When Keepsake Artist Tammy Haddix’s children were young, she taught them to create their own Christmas gifts for friends and family. Tammy thought making gifts was more personal, and it also provided a way for her family to do something fun and creative together during the holidays.

Painting tip: Use a paper plate as a palette to dilute the paint with water and/or to mix colors together to make new colors (blue + yellow = green, red + yellow = orange, red + white = pink, mixed green + red = brown, white + black = gray).

After the painted pieces have dried, apply glitter. Pour a bit of school glue onto your palette, pour a bit of glitter into the glue. and mix together. The use a paintbrush to apply the glitter glue to the parts of the gingerbread house you want to sparkle. The glue will dry clear, so you can even apply it to painted parts.
