Local Club Update
Midland’s Ornament Collectors Club
From Cheryl O’Dell, Club President
Midland’s Ornament Collector’s Club or MOCC began in the summer of 1994. For the past 14 years, the club has been sponsored by Kitty’s Hallmark in Columbia, SC.
Ornament Premiere Weekend is a time that this club really celebrates each year. MOCC members usually meet for breakfast the morning of the event and then head to Kitty’s Hallmark for viewing and picking up their orders. Another tradition kept by some of the members is that after picking up their ornaments, they go to a member’s home for lunch and then open and inspect each ornament purchased. This is a time for the club to share many Hallmark memories.
Like many local clubs, MOCC has always been very supportive of local charities and organizations. Each year they give stuffed animals to all the local police and fire departments. The club enjoys sponsoring these organizations to bring joy into kids’ lives that may be disrupted by a disaster. The stuffed animal program has been a huge hit, as they have also given them to children’s units at the local hospitals and Sister Care.
Another special project MOCC does every year is to make Christmas wreaths and decorate them with Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments and then donate them to different organizations. Some of the organizations receiving these special wreaths are Carolina Children’s Home, Ronald McDonald Cancer Treatment Center, and children’s units at the local hospitals.
This is just another great example of how local clubs make a real difference in communities all over our country. Way to go MOCC!
