Star Rider – Tammy has taken some inspiration from her personal collection of gnome figures and given it a twist. Gnomes usually spend their time in the forest, but this one is being treated to a ride above the treetops on a nighttime star. Comes in a red velvet pouch.

Star to Sew By – When Sue isn’t sculpting in the Keepsake Ornament studio, she can often be found at home making one-of-a-kind gifts for her friends and family. This star represents the sort of thing she might make for a friend who shares her love for sewing.

Star Bright – Anyone familiar with Ladene’s work knows that no detail is too small for her. She loves finding ways to make even the tiniest of beads come together to make a big statement. Just look at this beautifully beaded star. No wonder it’s smiling. Comes in a brown velvet pouch.

The commemorative Stars were born out of the inspiration and gifted craftsmanship of Hallmark’s Keepsake Ornament artists, who used a combination of interesting materials to sculpt these singular creations. The Stars, which first appeared in the premiere issue of Keepsakes for Keeps, (article below) were designed to make your collection shine!

Five-Star Works of Art

Wouldn’t it be amusing, we thought, to challenge all the Keepsake artists to sculpt a star, the perfect symbol of Independence Day?  Thirteen sculptors rose to the challenge with a myriad of one-of-a-kind ornaments, ranging from playful to patriotic. KOCC consumer communications coordinator Beth Wall was so excited by the concept that she unleashed her own creative juices. Materials included the to-be-expected modeling clay, as well as paper, Christmas-tree light bulbs, wire, nuts and bolts, and more. Sue Tague went straight to the notions in her sewing basket and Anita Marra Rogers raided the cookie jar for inspiration. Joyce Lyle’s star is equally patriotic. “I thought that it would be nice to do something that acknowledged the heroism and sacrifices made on September 11,” she notes. Linda Sickman’s did a gilded and beribboned entry. Sharon Visker took another approach. “When I work on my own time, I like to do wacky things,” she says. “I’m always making funny faces and turning them into magnets and pins so it seemed like a natural fit to make a star face.” Her funny-faced creature is adorned with wire, beads, and google eyes. We’re delighted to show off these little works of art. Perhaps some of these beauties will even turn up one day as Keepsake Ornaments!
