The Bear Facts behind “Bearing Brunch”

My wife loves birds. The mesquite tree outside the kitchen window is full of all kinds of feeders, so much so that I have dubbed it “The Bird Buffet”! Beneath the tree is a BIG block of seed for the many quail who scurry around followed by their tiny offspring. From the eves of the patio roof comes the whirring sound of hummingbird wings, waiting in line at the feeders. So, when I was thinking about ideas for this year’s Piece, a little bird whispered in my ear… and I listened!

Thus, the piece turned into a collaboration with Gail, that was fun for both of us. It resulted in a piece that I think is better because of her help! I wanted bears and she wanted birds, I wanted a place for a “secret message” and the removable seed bag turned out to be the perfect place! I wanted the seed bag to leave a trail of seeds in the snow and Gail wanted birds on the ground helping themselves to the seeds!

By the time it was finished, it was so much fun that I didn’t want to stop…… So I decided to sculpt “Bear Watching”as a whimsical small companion piece.

It is my hope that “Bearing Brunch” and “Bear Watching” bring enjoyment [and a smile] to collectors, be they bird watchers or bear watchers!
