Old Brick Church
On Christmas Eve, the old brick church begins to fill with families, at the sound from the bell tower calls the faithful to gather by candlelight. Reminiscent of the great monasteries of Europe in the Middle Ages, the Romanesque Revival style was popular from the late Victorian Era into the 1920s. Rounded arches, horizontal belt courses, and a weighty, somber heft distinguish the Romanesque from the Gothic Revival style. Such a stately church not only commands a neighborhood—it stands unchanging as time goes by, speaking reverently of things eternal—like Christmas itself.
