Foxes in the Forest

“The mother vixen seems to be playing with her pups, but she’s actually teaching them a very important life lesson,” explains noted wildlife artist Mark Newman. “The pups are learning how to hunt and forage for food skills they’ll need as they grow up and start their adult lives.”

Mark Newman’s interest in wildlife began when he was a child, visiting his family’s cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on camping trips to Yosemite National Park. Today he sculpts and paints in beautiful detail the elusive creatures of the forests, fields, and mountains. Different animals are featured each year in this series.

Curious Raccoons

One young kit peers out from a den in a hollow log while mother and a littermate look on.  Smart and curious, raccoons are easily identified by their “masked” faces.  They love to explore and play–and can often be seen using their fingers to handle food and other objects.

This series of Keepsake Ornaments is sculpted by Mark Newman, a noted nature artist, whose designs reflect his love of nature and the animals he has studied since childhood.  His sculptures are distinguished by their realistic styling and true-to-nature colors.

Timber Wolves at Play

“One of the most interesting things about wolves is their sense of community and social structure—it’s not all that different from our own,” says noted wildlife artist Mark Newman.  “In this sculpture, I wanted to show the pups engaging in playful activity while their protective mother keeps a watchful eye… making sure they are safe from harm.”

Through his realistic and sensitive portrayals, the artist shares a lifelong interest in the fascinating creatures of the North American forests, fields, and mountains. Mark Newman provides close-up views that few of us are privileged to see.  Different animals are featured in this series each year.

Snowshoe Rabbits in Winter

As a boy, Mark Newman longed for a closer look at the animals he saw during visits to his family’s cabin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and on camping trips to Yosemite National Park.  Today, he paints and sculpts in beautiful detail the exclusive wild creatures of the forests, fields, and mountains.

This design depicts a family of snowshoe rabbits, whose summer coats of tan have turned to white for wintertime.  Thick fur on the bottoms of their feet gives them the ability to dash across the snow—and explains their name.  Future ornaments in this series will portray other animals in natural settings.
