Fayrol Unverferth

Gingerbread Man

This ornament has been on quite a journey. It started as a 100-foot Douglas fir, a gift from the private forest of the Weyerhaeuser Company in Oregon. The tree traveled more than 1,500 miles through six states to Kansas City, where it stood at Crown Center as the Mayor’s Christmas Tree.

Each year, the tree represents the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, a citywide charity that makes the season merrier for our less fortunate. After the holidays, the tree is cut into lumber and made into ornaments designed by Hallmark artists. This particular ornament holds a special place as the 25th in the series.

The variation in the wood grain makes each ornament an absolutely unique treasure. And, through each ornament lives the spirit of holiday giving–all proceeds from the ornament sales benefit this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund.

Thank you for your contribution.

This commemorative ornament, 24th in a series, began as one of the tallest Christmas trees in the nation.  The 100-foot Douglas fir was a gift to Kansas City from the private forests of the Weyerhaeuser Company in Oregon.  The tree traveled more than 1,500 miles through six states to Kansas City, where it became a symbol of our city’s nurturing spirit as the 2003 Mayor’s Christmas Tree.

Each year, the tree stands in Crown Center Square to represent the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, a citywide charity that makes the season merrier for our less fortunate.  After the holidays, the tree is cut into lumber and made into ornaments designed by Hallmark artists.  This limited-edition ornament is the latest in the series of collectible ornaments.

The variation in the wood grain makes each ornament a one-of-a-kind treasure.  And, through each ornament lives the spirit of holiday giving—all proceeds from the sale of these ornaments benefit this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund.

The
The Legend of the
CHRISTMAS STAR

The time was fast approaching for the birth
of the Baby Jesus. Wise men from the east
knew that the prophecy of the long-awaited
Savior was about to be fulfilled and they
prayed for a sign that would lead them
to that holy place.

High above, a band of angels heard their
prayers and flew among the stars of the
Sky of Heaven to choose the brightest star
of all–the one that would shine with
the glory of the Lord Himself–and they
fixed it above the town of Bethlehem.

And so i was that the Star was seen by
wise men in faraway lands who followed its
light to the humble stable and the Holy Child.

And now, after more than 2000 years, that
same Star still shines brightly in our hearts.
For it is the Star of wonder and of hope.
It is the Star of believing.

Legend of the Animals

The animals gave Him a manger-bed,
Gathering near as Christ was born,
And when He smiled and blessed their love,
The animals spoke on Christmas morn.

And now on every Christmas Eve,
A wondrous miracle takes place,
And the animals speak among themselves
Of the love that smiled from Jesus’ face.

The Legend of the Christmas Tree

How bright you are, O little tree!
How proud you stand for all to see…
Your slender branches, sparkle-bright,
Recall that wondrous, holy night
When Jesus came amidst the cold,
As ancient prophets had foretold.
And kings and wise men all adored
The tiny Babe who was the Lord.

While close to where the Babe was born,
There stood a fir tree, all forlorn.
Its branches were all brown and bare,
No shelter from the cold night air.
It was ashamed to be so brown,
But then a thousand stars looked down
And showered the tree with radiant light…
Renewed its branches on that night.
And Baby Jesus, meek and mild,
Looked at the tree and then He smiled.

THE LEGEND OF THE POINSETTIA

It was once a custom in Mexico
for villagers to leave gifts for the Baby Jesus
in their churches on Christmas Eve.
In one small village, a little boy who had
no gift to bring knelt down and prayed for a way
to show his love for the Infant King.
Suddenly, where he knelt, a flower bloomed.
It was formed like a star
and had brilliant red leaves.
This miraculous flower came to be known as
the “Flower of the Holy Night.”

Many years later, after i was discovered by
J.R. Poinsett (1779-1851), an American
ambassador to Mexico, the plant was named
the Poinsettia.
