Keepsake Artist Edythe Kegrize made Hallmark history in 1998 as the first recipient of the company’s Barbara Marshall Award. The award, created to honor the daughter of Hallmark founder J.C. Hall, recognizes the spirit and ability within Hallmark’s creative community. During her six-month sabbatical, Edythe created a series of dolls that demonstrated her talent for figurative work and surface design- and earned her a spot in the Keepsake Studio. Edythe Kegrize Terri Steiger takes her time gathering ideas and inspiration. It’s her favorite part of creating Keepsake Ornaments. She loves diving deep into the Hallmark Archives–a treasure trove of vintage cards, design patterns, and gift products from Hallmark’s rich history. The inspiration she finds can influence a design, a story, or sometimes an entire concept. Debra Nielsen’s creative career began when a neighbor told her about an interesting freelance opportunity at Hallmark. The idea appealed to the working mom busy raising young kids, and the job became her first opportunity to turn art–which had been a lifetime hobby–into a profession. Ten years later, Debra joined the Keepsake Studio full time. Little did she know when she started as a freelancer that she would still be a Keepsake Artist thirty-three years later.

Robert Hurlburt For Keepsake Artist Robert Hurlburt, Hallmark began as a family affair—his brother helped bring him into company. “He and I knew that we wanted to do something creative rather than what our family traditionally did, which was working in an industrial trade,” he says. What Robert brought with him from that background is the technical eye he uses to scrutinize each of his creations.
